Between August 27 and November 27, the youth volunteer organization We Are One set a goal of donating blood to 70,000 people. Over the course of the 85-day campaign, 73,807 individuals performed blood donations in total. The largest group blood donation ever recorded involved 100,360 participants in total.
Recently, there has not been enough blood available due to factors including decreased blood donor activity brought on by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We Are One members enthusiastically donated blood with the aim of reaching 70,000 blood donations by November to get ready for the winter season and the impending holidays when the blood supply is typically low.
According to schedule, 70,000 blood donations had been made by November 27th through the campaign, which was carried out at blood banks in 17 major cities in South Korea.
We Are One concentrated on synchronizing individual schedules based on the requirements of the blood banks so that a lot of individuals could donate blood in a short amount of time. The volunteers took precautions to keep themselves healthy and make sure they wouldn’t be barred from donating blood. Over 100,000 We Are One members visited blood banks and joined the campaign in order to reach the target of 70,000 blood donations before winter.
We Are One’s spokesman Junsu Hong said, “Blood donation is a selfless act of volunteerism and the only way to save the lives of people who require blood transfusions. I applaud each and every one of the members who gave blood with a strong sense of calling for the practice of sharing life. To address the lack of blood and enhance the safety net for the community, We Are One will continue to donate blood.”
We Are One, a volunteer organization made up of young people from the Shincheonji Church of Jesus in Korea and abroad, was established on July 30th.
